Lot 1708
SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Philip I Philadelphos, circa 95/4-76/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.15 g, 12 h), Antiochia on the Orontes, after 88/7. Diademed head of Philip I to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ΦIΛIΠΠΟΥ - EΠIΦΑΝΟΥΣ / ΦIΛAΔEΛΦΟΥ Zeus seated left, holding Nike in his right hand and long scepter in his left; to outer left, N above A; below throne, monogram; all within laurel wreath. SC 2463.1. Light doubling on the obverse and Zeus' head punctured several times, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

An interesting detail about this coin is the fact that Zeus' head has been deliberately punctured several times. Perhaps one of the former owners was mad at the supreme god for not granting him a desired favor?
